Scott-Vincent Borba votes no on office politics.
November 4, 2010
By: Scott-Vincent Borba
Are you a player in the game of office politics? Do you whisper “harmless” thoughts and theories about other coworkers and wonder why no one at work trusts you? Are you the one who says things like, “Did you notice how John leaves at noon for lunch but comes back an hour later only to eat lunch at his desk? I bet he’s consulting for another company.” Office politics are something that every office has to endure at one point or another; one bad apple can spoil a whole bunch in a small office. I believe office politics stem from impersonalization. Sometimes people will assume wild things about someone else because they don’t know them well enough. As CEO of Borba, I try my best to keep office politics out of the office. I try my best to befriend each of my employees and help them through whatever situations (work or personal) that I can. I treat my employees as friends, because I care for and respect them, and this method makes office politics a thing of the past. I can tell you what everyone in our office did over the weekend. I can tell you what workloads they are taking on and what is stressing them out. As CEO, it’s my place to ensure every employee is working smoothly and to their best aptitude. If I notice a coworker is acting stressed or different, I’ll ask why as their CEO, but I’ll offer advice as their friend. About the Author Popular with consumers, audiences and media alike, Borba Founder and CEO Scott-Vincent Borba has earned a solid reputation as a prescient thinker and beauty business visionary. In developing first-of-their-kind beauty products for his company and treating the skin from both inside and out, he is indeed changing the way people think about skin care.
